Staffed by experienced health inspectors, the Communication Resource Unit (CRU) operates under the Risk Communication Section, Centre for Food Safety of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD).
CRU plays a distinct role in safeguarding public health by enhancing food safety and preventing vector-borne diseases through a host of communication channels. Recognizing the paramount importance of tripartite collaboration between the Government, the trade and the public in enhancing food safety, CRU empowers the trade and the public by organizing various food safety programmes. A notable example is fostering the trade to adopt food safety plan, based on the principles of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) – a proactive food safety assurance model.
