Histamine found in salted fish samples

Another two samples of salted fish tested by the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) have been found to contain histamine.

"Following earlier detection of a high level of histamine in a salted fish sample under brand name 'Golden Dragon Thailand Salted Mackerel Fish in Soya Bean Oil', the CFS collected more samples from the same brand but of different batches for testing. Results available today (June 29) showed that two samples were found to contain histamine, at levels of 630ppm and 780ppm respectively," a CFS spokesman said.

These two samples were also packed in glass bottles. Their lids carried respectively:

* Batch number: "R7ES002", manufacturing date: 2/4/2007 and best before date: 2/4/2009 ;

* Batch number: "R7ES003", manufacturing date: 20/4/2007 and best before date: 20/4/2009 .

"The samples were collected from the supplier, which together with some other retail outlets, have been asked to stop selling and to dispose of the same batches of product. People who have purchased the same batches are also advised not to consume them.

"The CFS has informed the Thai authorities of the latest test results. We will closely monitor the situation," the spokesman said.
