CFS urges public not to consume two kinds of snack imported from UK suspected to be contaminated with Salmonella
The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (August 22) urged the public not to consume two kinds of snack imported from the United Kingdom (UK), as the products might have been contaminated with Salmonella, a pathogen. The trade should stop using or selling the products concerned immediately if they possess them.
Details of the products are as follows:
Product name: Mr. Porky Crispy Strips
Brand: Mr. Porky
Place of origin: UK

Sole importer: Jenzet Limited
Product name: Mr. Porky Original Scratchings
Brand: Mr. Porky
Place of origin: UK
Net weight: 40 grams per pack

A spokesman for the CFS said, "The CFS received a notification from the British authorities through the International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN) that the above-mentioned products may be contaminated by Salmonella. The Food Standards Agency and the Public Health England are conducting an investigating and the concerned products are being recalled. According to the information provided by the INFOSAN, the affected products have been imported into Hong Kong."
Upon learning of the incident, the CFS immediately contacted local major importers and retailers for follow-up. Preliminary investigation found that the above-mentioned sole importer had imported into Hong Kong the affected products concerned. The CFS has instructed the importer to stop sale and remove from shelves the affected products and initiate a recall. Enquiries about the recall can be made to the importer's hotline at 5589 7864 during office hours.
"Salmonella infection may cause fever and gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea. The effects on infants, young children, the elderly and persons with a weak immune system could be more severe and may even lead to death," the spokesman said.
The spokesman urged consumers not to consume the affected products if they have bought any. The trade should also stop using or selling the products concerned immediately if they possess them.
The CFS will alert the trade to the incident, and will continue to follow up and take appropriate action. Investigation is ongoing.
