Food Safety Day 2010
Food Safety Day is an annual signature event of the Centre for Food Safety (CFS). Jointly organised by the CFS, Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), Education Bureau and Committee on Home-School Co-operation, Food Safety Day 2010 was held at Hong Kong Southorn Stadium in Wanchai on 28 June 2010 (Monday) as a preface of the third phase of the Publicity and Education Campaign on Nutrition Labelling (NL). Under the slogan of "For Your Health Count on the Nutrition Label 1+7", the event aims to draw youngsters to promote the use of NL for healthy life.
Food Safety Day 2010 marked a new era of NL in Hong Kong . The NL Scheme came into force on 1 July 2010 . Prepackaged foods are required to bear nutrition labels to list out the "1 + 7" information and nutrition claims are regulated.
The officiating guests of the event included Secretary for Food and Health Dr York Chow; Chairman of the Legislative Council Panel on Food Safety and Environmental Hygiene the Hon Fred Li and Deputy Chairman the Hon Wong Yung-kan; Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene, Mr Cheuk Wing-hing; Controller of the CFS Dr Constance Chan; Head, Chinese Programme Service, RTHK Mr Philip Chow; Chairman of Expert Committee on Food Safety Professor Kwan Hoi-shan; Principal Education Officer (Curriculum Development), Curriculum and Quality Assurance Branch, Education Bureau, Mr Tam Koon-che; Member of the Working Group on Information, Committee on Home-School Co-operation, Mr Christopher Yu; and representatives of members of the Task Force on NL Education. Also, Mr Hacken Lee, who served as Ambassador for Food Safety Day on RTHK's invitation, together with other artistes and guests, promoted NL and shared healthy eating habits with participants.
Apart from artists' performance, there were also various thematic competitions, interactive games and exhibition such as Nutrition Labelling Creative T-shirt Design Competition, Nutrition Labelling Group Photo Competition, NL telematch and quiz. The event attracted over 700 participants including 500-odd students from 16 secondary schools. We hope that participants will start to know better about NL after these exciting activities.
