Sugars provide energy for the body. They are immediate source of energy for brain and muscles. Getting too much sugars may lead to overweight/obesity and dental caries.

For a 2000-kcal diet, one should have not more than 50 g of sugars (approx. 10 cubes of sugar) daily.

"Sugars" is a mandatory item to be listed on the nutrition label. Its value is usually expressed under the amount of carbohydrates.
