Issuance of “Health Certificate for Foods of Animal Origin”
The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) is the competent authority in Hong Kong to issue “Health Certificate for Foods of Animal Origin” for food products being exported to countries/places which require such certification during import. This is a public service aimed at assisting local food manufacturers exporting foods containing ingredients of animal origin in meeting the veterinary health requirements imposed on imports by other countries/places.
The Food of Animal Origin Unit under the Veterinary Public Health Section is responsible for “Health Certificate for Foods of Animal Origin”.
Certification Requirements
Sending in an application does not guarantee the issuance of a “Health Certificate for Foods of Animal Origin”. The FEHD will conduct a thorough inspection of the food manufacturing process of the food establishment to ensure that all requirements specified by importing countries/places are fulfilled before issuing a health certificate. The import requirements imposed by each importing country/place may differ. Local food exporters are advised to check with the relevant competent authority of the importing country/place for the import requirements and comply with such requirements before submitting their applications.
