Retailers asked not to sell certain baby food
The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) today (February 17) appealed to retailers to stop selling the following Earth's Best baby food products and the public not to consume them.
Details of the affected baby food are as follows: -
Baby Food | UPC code | Lid | Expiration Date |
---|---|---|---|
Earth's Best Organic 2 Apple Peach Barley Wholesome Breakfast (4.5 ounce jars) | 23923-20223 | PF6J14NP | EXP 14 SEP 08A |
Earth's Best Organic 2 Wholesome Breakfast Variety Pack (12 pack) | 23923-20295 | 13 SEP 08 | |
Earth's Best 2 Apple Peach Barley (4.5 ounce jars within 12 pack) | 23923-20223 | PF6J14NP | EXP 14 SEP 08A |
The appeal was made as the Food and Drug Administration of the United States had issued a warning to consumers not to use the above jars of Earth's Best baby food because of the risk of contamination with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium which could cause botulism, a life-threatening illness or death. Consumers were warned not to use the product even if it did not look or smell spoiled, a CFS spokesman said.
"We will make inspections to monitor the situation," he said.
