Press Release

CFS gives further food alert

Following yesterday's advice on products that might be contaminated by botulinum toxin, the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) today (July 20) further advised people not to eat seven other canned products manufactured by the Castleberry's Food Company in the United States.

The CFS also appealed to the trade to stop selling these products.

Details of the affected products are as follows:

1) Morton House Corned Beef Hash, 15 oz can (UPC 7526665830);
2) Cattle Drive Chili with Beans, 15 oz can (UPC 3030001515);
3) Southern Home Corned Beef Hash, 15 oz can (UPC 0788015360);
4) Meijer Corned Beef Hash, 15 oz can (UPC 4125095229);
5) Castleberry's Chili with Beans, 15 oz can (UPC 3030001015);
6) Castleberry's Barbecue Pork, 10 oz can (UPC 3030000402) and
7) Bunker Hill Chili No Beans, 10 oz can (UPC 7526604112).

These products are with "best by" dates from April 30, 2009 through May 22, 2009. The "best by" dates can be found either on the top or bottom of the cans.

The CFS noted that the manufacturer was conducting a voluntary recall of the above products as well as the three hot dog chili sauce announced yesterday due to possible contamination with botulinum toxin.

"The CFS has contacted the US authorities for further information. We have alerted the trade and are closely monitoring the situation," a CFS spokesman said.
