Two kinds of milk imported from Australia suspected to have quality problem
The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) today (August 28) advised people not to consume "Pauls Fresh Milk" (packing size: one litre) and "Harvey Fresh" Fresh Milk (packing size: one litre) which are to be used by September 6 and imported by the same importer from Australia. The CFS received complaints about strange taste while drinking the concerned products and suspected that it is a quality issue. The trade should also stop selling the affected products.
"The Centre received six complaints about strange taste when drinking the above-mentioned products and hence started investigation. According to the information provided by Nowaday International Development Limited, the importer concerned, they also received similar complaints and took the initiative to stop sale of the products. The CFS has instructed the importer concerned to recall the two batches of affected products. The two batches of products were believed to be stored in the same container while being shipped to Hong Kong," a CFS spokesman said.
Information provided by the importer also showed that the affected products had been available for sale at several supermarket chains. For enquiries about the product recall, consumers can call a hotline set up by the importer at 2882 2347 during office hours.
"For the sake of prudence, consumers who have bought the affected products should stop drinking them. The CFS will alert the trade to the incident. The trade should also stop selling the affected products," the spokesman said.
The CFS has informed the Australian authorities of the incident and is tracing the distribution of the affected products. The Centre will monitor the recall of the affected products, go on with investigation including the cause and take appropriate follow-up action (including adjusting the scope of recall).
