Updates on CFS' investigation on canned fish from Japan suspected to contain foreign matters
The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (November 25) said that while following up on the incident that several kinds of Japanese canned fish products produced by Maruha Nichiro Corporation were suspected to contain foreign matters, the CFS found another retailer which had imported and sold the affected products. The CFS appealed to the trade again that they should stop using or selling the products concerned immediately if they still have them in their possession.
A CFS spokesman said, "Upon learning that several kinds of Japanese canned fish products produced by Maruha Nichiro Corporation were under recall as they might contain foreign matters, the CFS had advised the trade to stop selling and remove from shelves the affected products. "
Further investigation by the CFS found that another retailer "759 Store" had imported and sold the affected product. Details of the product are as follows:
Product name: Maruha Kabayaki Saury
Manufacturer: Maruha Nichiro Foods inc.
Retailer : 759 Store
JAN Codes: 4901901392989
Production Code: MNKK
Best Before dates: December 1, 2016 to May 1, 2018
According to the information provided by "759 Store", the affected product was only for sale at its retail outlets, and had all been sold out. The retailer has proactively initiated a recall earlier on. Members of the public may call the company's hotline at 3960 9349 during office hours for enquiries about the recall.
The spokesman urged the trade to stop using or selling the affected product immediately should they have imported and still possess them. At the same time, the spokesman reminded members of the public who had bought the affected product to immediately stop consumption.
The CFS will continue to follow up on the incident and take appropriate action. Investigation is ongoing.
