CFS urges public not to consume prepackaged haggis and black pudding products with potential microbiological risk

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (July 15) urged the public not to consume four kinds of haggis and black pudding products imported from the United Kingdom with different use by dates as a precautionary measure since a production error might pose potential microbiological risk.

A CFS spokesman said, "The CFS, through its Food Incident Surveillance System, learned of the notices issued by the UK Food Standards Agency and Food Safety Authority of Ireland that the manufacturer of the products is recalling the affected batches of products because of a production error that may pose a microbiological risk."

The spokesman said that upon learning of the incident, the CFS immediately followed up with Marks & Spencer, the importer of the affected products in Hong Kong.

According to the information provided by the importer, the above-mentioned products were imported to Hong Kong for sale in its retail outlets only. It has already stopped sale and removed from shelves the affected batches of products, and initiated a recall. For enquiries about the recall, members of the public may call Marks & Spencer hotline at 3656 2253 during office hours.

The spokesman urged members of the public to stop consuming the affected batches of products if they have purchased any.

The CFS will continue to follow up and take appropriate action. Investigation is ongoing.
