In August 2010, shortly after the commencement of the new Nutrition Labelling Scheme under the Food and Drugs (Composition and Labelling) (Amendment: Requirements for Nutrition Labelling and Nutrition Claim) Regulation 2008 since 1 July 2010, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council held the Hong Kong Food Expo 2010 which has been considered a testing ground for introducing new-to-market prepackaged food products into Hong Kong. The Centre for Food Safety commissioned an independent consultant to conduct a survey to assess the impact brought by the Nutrition Labelling Scheme on the introduction of new-to-market prepackaged food products via the Food Expo 2010. Another survey was conducted in the Food Expo 2011 in August 2011 comparing with the baseline established in the Food Expo 2010. The findings of the two surveys are provided below.
