1. The CFS received a notice from a local food factory that the above batch of the product concerned was under voluntary recall.
2. Staff of the CFS has visited the food factory concerned and conducted inspection.
3. According to the Section 52 of the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance, Cap.132, if any person sells to the prejudice of a purchaser any food or drug which is not of the nature, or not of the substance, or not of the quality, of the food or drug demanded by the purchaser, he shall, be guilty of an offence. Offender is liable upon conviction to a fine of $50,000 and imprisonment for six months.
4. The CFS will trace the distribution of the food in question and collect sample for testing so as to safeguard public health.
5. The CFS will inform the trade, continue to follow up and take necessary action. Investigation is ongoing.
