Food Safety Day 2014 – Safe and Smart Ways to Cook

Food Safety Day is an annual signature event organised by the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) with a view to promoting tripartite collaboration among the Government, the food trade and the public. This year, under the slogan "Safe and Smart Ways to Cook", the CFS advises the public and the food trade on how good cooking habits can prevent or reduce the formation of harmful substances during the cooking process, as well as to ensure food safety .
Food Safety Day 2014 was held on 4 July 2014 (Friday) at Chiang Chen Studio Theatre, Hong Kong Polytechnic to kick start a series of activities to promote safer cooking methods. The opening ceremony of Food Safety Day 2014 was officiated by Acting Consultant (Community Medicine) (Risk Assessment and Communication) of the CFS, Dr Samuel Yeung; the Chairman of the Expert Committee on Food Safety, Professor Ma Ching-yung; and the Curriculum Development Officer (Technology Education) of the Education Bureau, Ms Poon Suk-mei .
Representatives from food trade associations that have signed up to the Food Safety Charter were invited to join the event and participated at the signing ceremony. They are committed to provide quality services grounded in food safety to Hong Kong people and tourists.
This year, the CFS organised the Secondary School Food Safety and Nutrition Labelling Quiz Competition for the first time. The Final Competition and Award Presentation Ceremony was held on the same day. After several rounds of competition, Sing Yin Secondary School won the Champion, St. Clare's Girls' School was the first runner-up and won "The Best Support Team", while Buddhist Yip Kei Nam Memorial College was the second runner-up.

The final round of the Secondary School Food Safety and Nutrition Labelling Quiz Competition and Award Presentation Ceremony were held on the same day.
