Food Safety Day is an annual signature event organised by the Centre for Food Safety with a view to promoting tripartite collaboration among the Government, the food trade and the public. The theme of this year's Food Safety Day is "Hong Kong's Action on Salt and Sugar Reduction". The event aims to raise public awareness about the importance of reducing dietary salt and sugar intake and encourage the public to develop a healthy eating habit with less salt and sugar.
Food Safety Day 2015 was held on 26 June 2015 (Friday) at Chiang Chen Studio Theatre, Hong Kong Polytechnic University to kick start a series of activities. The opening ceremony of Food Safety Day 2015 was officiated by Consultant (Community Medicine) (Risk Assessment and Communication) of the CFS, Dr Ho Yuk-yin; the Curriculum Development Officer (Technology Education) of the Education Bureau, Ms Poon Suk-mei; and the Secretary of the Committee on Home-School Co-operation, Ms Yung Pik-ching.
Representatives from food trade associations that have signed up to the Food Safety Charter were invited to join the event and participated at the signing ceremony. Also joining the ceremony to show support to the event were participants of the "Reduce Salt, Sugar, Oil. We Do!" programme launched by the CFS.
