Call to stop consuming fresh mushrooms suspected to contain toxins

Mushrooms imported by "Luen Kee Hoo Co, Ltd", including fresh Matsutake, fresh Catathelasma ventricosum, fresh Pseudohydum gelatinosum, fresh Termitomyces albuminosus, fresh Red Porcini and fresh Yellow Porcini.

Concerned products were available on sale at the following six retail outlets between 21 and 27 July:
1. Sogo Department Store (Causeway Bay)
2. Apita (Taikoo)
3. City'super (Causeway Bay)
4. City'super (Tsim Sha Tsui)
5. City'super (Central)
6. City'super (Shatin)

Sale staff would pack fresh mushrooms according to the types and amount ordered by customers in transparent plastic bags which carried no information of the company "Luen Kee Hoo Co, Ltd".

Reason For Issuing Alert The concerned food is suspected of being adulterated with mushrooms with toxins. Consumer may suffer from symptoms of abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhoea.
Action Taken by the Centre for Food Safety The CFS contacted the concerned supplier, which has surrendered the food at the Sogo Department Store retail outlet to the CFS for disposal and will dispose of the remaining of the stocks in other sales outlets. The CFS will continue to follow up the case.
Advice to the Trade Stop selling and recalling the concerned product.
Advice to Consumers Stop consuming the concerned products, either dispose of or return the remaining fresh mushrooms to the supplier. If symptoms develop after consuming the food, they should seek medical advice as soon as possible.
