Reason For Issuing Alert | A can of the “Greatwell Brand Chopped Pork and Ham” found to have liquid mercury. |
Action Taken by the Centre for Food Safety | The CFS has alerted the trade and the distributing agent is recalling the concerned batch of luncheon meat as a precautionary measure. It has also set up a hotline for consumers (Hotline: 2549 0016). The CFS will monitor the recall process. The CFS has collected another 13 samples of the same product of different batches from the local market. Preliminary examination did not reveal mercury droplets. Detailed test results are pending. The CFS has informed the relevant Mainland authority of the finding and will closely monitor the situation with appropriate follow up actions. |

Advice to Consumers | Stop consuming the concerned batch of products. Alerting the CFS if any foreign matters are found in canned food. |
