In addition to handling food incidents, the CFS is also responsible for the investigation and control of food poisoning outbreaks related to food premises and food business. From 2007-2013, the numbers of food poisoning cases ranged from 316 to 621 in Hong Kong, of which around 80% were related to food premises and food business. The CFS, in collaboration with the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health, investigates food poisoning and foodborne infectious diseases in food premises, identifies the contributing factors in the outbreaks, implements appropriate control measures and assists in tracing sources of unwholesome food. The CFS also educates the food handlers about food, personal and environmental hygiene at the food premises concerned.
