Biography
Ms. Connie LAU, graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, is the Chief Executive of Hong Kong Consumer Council. She is responsible for overseeing the operation of the Council, formulating policies, strategies and long-term programmes for the protection of consumer rights and interests. Ms. LAU is the Council Member and Executive Member of the Consumers International, a federation of consumer organizations comprising over 220 members from 115 countries.
Ms. LAU is active in public service currently representing the Council on many public bodies including, inter alia, the Estate Agents Authority, the Advisory Committee on Travel Agents, the Travel Industry Compensation Fund Management Board, Deposit-taking Companies Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and Board of Directors of Financial Dispute Resolution Centre. Ms. LAU was also the former Member of the Expert Committee on Food Safety.
In 2011, Ms. LAU was awarded by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to be the honoree of the Beta Gamma Sigma HKUST Chapter, an award to outstanding community leaders in recognition of their significant achievements as an excellent role model for the next generation leaders in the industry, the community, and the academia. In the same year, Ms. Lau was appointed by the Chief Executive of HKSAR as unofficial Justice of the Peace on 1st July.
